Jeff Kovacich - Cover Letter

I am not sure who to address this cover letter to as there was no name. Should I use the company name, HR representative, or something else? Also, I know I should add a question or two in it so should I add it to the body or the conclusion of the letter? Would generic or more specific questions about the company be best? Maybe one of each. Also, please comment on the tone and general structure of the cover letter as I have never written one before.

Cover Letter Review

Form & Style
1. You appear to have all of the necessary components. The only thing I would suggest would be to change your salutation to direct it to the HR coordinator or some such.
2. Your cover letter is in the correct block format.
3. I feel that your style is right for the occasion. You have a very professional, but approachable tone to your letter.
4. As I said I think that you presented yourself with a professional tone, and you did it without overly exaggerating your skills and experience.
5. I did could not find any spelling or mechanical errors.

Content/Rhetorical Context
1. As I far as I can tell you used keyword effectively. You used the job ad well. The only thing I could suggest would be to maybe go into a little more depth as to what your experiences are.
2. You really did not detail why you have applied for this position other than that you would like to gain some experience and knowledge for the company. The is fine in my opinion but you might want to include what interests you about the company.
3. I though that you used terms that are easily recognizable to other professional in the field that you are applying to.
4. You identified the position that you are applying for, but you did not include its source or the major reasons why you would be a good choice for this position.
5. In your conclusion you did reference your contact information but you might want to at least list your phone number or e-mail in the paragraph. I also though you ended a little too formally. The last line seems a little stiff.
6. I think the most important revision you should make is your introduction. You should probably go into a little more detail as to why you chose this company over others.

I thought your tone was fine throughout your cover letter. It was professional but also had casual approachable tone. I think you should address your letter to the HR coordinator rather than the company name. It seems more personable. I don’t think you should add a question to your letter. I think that if there are any questions they should be asked during an interview.
