-For my instructions I plan to describe how to download and use torrent software. The instructions will be using the free software known as µTorrent for the downloading program and the website http://btjunkie.org as the source for torrent files.
-This is a legitimate topic because downloading torrents is a mainstream activity on computers now. It is one of the easiest ways to legally backup any data you already own on your computer. Also, realistically, many do use it do pirate media in order to sample it before they buy or just keep. Although I won't condone the latter, it is a reality and using torrents is the safest way to do it since the data comes from multiple sources.
-I am credible because I have downloaded and used this program/website combination for over a year and I know what to look for in whether a download is good quality or a fake.
-My first audience will include those that have little to no experience or knowledge of torrent sharing, and little computer knowledge in general but would like to start using torrents. This audience needs to know precise step by step instructions on where to go to get the program, how to install, and how to use it. They would expect to have a good description of what torrents really are and how they work. Their values and concerns would surely address the legality of the matter and possibilities of viruses which I will address.
-My second audience will be those who use a computer daily and can install and use programs easily on their own. They may have used a downloading program in the past but have not used torrents before. This audience will need to know less intricate steps about installation but I can be more in depth with them about the specifics of how torrents actually work. They will also still need specific instructions on use of the program since they have not used it before. Their values and concerns would likely address the same matters as the first group (legality and viruses) but I can be more technical with this one since they are more computer savvy.
-For graphics, I plan to primarily use screen capture of the installation process and actual use. I could also employ a chart or graph to address concerns of legality, viruses, and success rate of torrents. For layout, the step by step process will be in a format that would be best used online as this is where the instructions will need to take place (most likely PDF format).
re: Torrenting, for real this time
This proposal is solid overall, but as is stated in the Proposal Redux post, you don't want to take a system-centered approach and differentiate audiences on the basis of knowledge and experience. You want to take a user-centered approach and think about your audience groups as discreet entities with different needs, expectations, and values.
