I think your designs possess the most potential to be advantageous to the readers. First off, the “beginners” instructions that you’ve included contain considerably more detail and reference figures. This is important, as our previous readings have suggested, because you are anticipating the needs of the novice users, thereby following the “user-centered” approach, which is a must. Furthermore, your “expert” instructions design is more concise and possesses a layout that promotes quick reference, which, as the readings suggest, is the primary concern of expert users. I feel these are the most important aspects to cover because novice users will inevitably need more detailed instructions and experts care little of the minor configuration, but are concerned with saving time. However, I think that both of your designs could benefit by utilizing colors more effectively, as The Thomson Handbook suggests. It is my experience that effective color schemes really assist in directing readers' attention if used appropriately.
Overall this seems like a solid start. There are only two things I would point out. The first is that these documents appear to be at 8.5 x 11 dimensions. As the project page states, we expect you to use the appropriate dimensions for the task (this is a design issue). If it's appropriate for these works to be in 8.5 x 11 format, that's fine, but you don't want a program's default settings to make your design decisions for you.
The second thing is that currently the instruction sets are somewhat similar. This may not be an issue, but keep in mind that you are targeting two discreet groups with individuated needs, expectations, and values. You want to keep your designs user-centered rather than system-centered. That might mean larger structure or format changes.
Dean, i think that you have a very good start to your project. I think that it is a wonderful idea to do it on cornhole because everyone likes to do it but few can pull it off. I think that your design is simple and easy to read which i enjoy. I also thought that the layout was very nice. The only thing that i think you might be able to work on is making more room for pictures. I think that this might be able to help the reader form a visual aspect. Overall i think that you are doing a great job and that it looks good to me.
