Graphics and Thumbnails instructor feedback: winninraces

Overall this seems like a solid start. Even though the dimensions of your documents appear to be 8.5 x 11, it looks like you are using a trifold format, so that changes how the work is presented. One issue that I would mention is that currently the instruction sets seem quite similar. This may not be a probelm, but keep in mind that you are targeting two discreet groups with individuated needs, expectations, and values. You want to keep your designs user-centered rather than system-centered. If that means changing the design and format, so be it.

The first thing I noticed was that you did a good job of using almost all of the principles of design mentioned in the TH book and Instructor Blog #5. First, all the text and pictures in the brochure are all aligned sensibly. Repetition is used in your beginner brochure with how you present the information. This simple format will be easy to use for a beginner. I do think the royal blue under the headers is a good touch, and one of the best colors to use against a white background. However, some more contrast might be effective in bettering the design.
Although both of your instructions thumbnails are very similar, I'm not sure how to tell you to change one or the other. One suggestion I might say is that the expert instructions seem like they would be too 'dummied down' for someone who was an expert. This design is very effective for a novice, but perhaps fewer pictures and more text to be able to explain more complex parts of the instructions would be more appropriate.

I like the idea of using a tri-fold for your instructions, but the only thing I wonder is, whether or not a tri-fold would be best for instructions of this nature. I would assume that most of your audience is going to be online users and they probably wouldn’t have access to a print of your instructions. Wouldn’t it make more since too create an easily downloadable instruction set that can be utilized via pdf by anyone and everyone who might download this program? I like your graphic displaying the entire login screen, with some detail added I think this can certainly do well.

Thanks!
