Individual Activity Report

I have not accomplished much of anything in regards to this group project. I sent an email out to the group on Tuesday to try and get some ideas going about a topic. Since I tend to be quite busy it is very helpful for me to get things organized as soon as possible so that I can plan around an conflicts.

I also familiarized myself with the requirements of this project as well as white papers in general. The readings for this week helped give me a deeper understanding of what makes a good white paper and where they often go wrong. I hope to be able to utilize a similar team format as I feel it will make the division of labor easier as well as help make sure that our white paper is a clearly and objectively written as possible.

After much emailing the group decided on a topic and some members volunteered to take care of the proposal and the activity report. Due to the last minute nature of these decisions I was unable to fully participate. However a face-to-face meeting was also planned for this week so that we can better prepare for the rest of the project. I sent out an invitation from TimeToMeet.info to hopefully make finding a common time quicker and easier.

Don't sell yourself short

I would recommend against starting a workblog this way. As the rest of the report indicates, you have done some conceptual work for the project. While I understand that you are attempting to be candid, such an opening frames the report negatively. If the report indicates that even you haven't counted what you have done as work, no one else will, and the conceptual work you have done is work, important work. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with highlighting what you have done: this is important professional practice and much research indicates that professionals, in particular those early in their careers, can use documentation to leverage more successful careers.

Thanks for the advice. When I started writing I couldn't think of anything I had done but as I started writing I realized that I had actually done things. I guess I hadn't really thought of conceptual work as actually being work before. To me work is writing, research, etc. However now I see that merely organizing to do work is work as well. Your final comment is something that I will definitely keep in mind in the future.
