English 421Y: Technical Writing Online

Our group meeting was once again very productive. The agenda was mainly focused on fixing our proposal to correctly meet the project requirements. We also focused on splitting up the work load between group members in order to give everyone a fair share. The group definitely fell into stride by the end of the meeting, with everyone knowing exactly what they should be doing/working on.

The first thing we had to decide was what to do about the direction of our project. The first proposal didn’t exactly meet the requirements and would have required a major change in direction to make it work. With that in mind the group all came to the conclusion to pick a totally different topic. We decided to pick comparing/contrasting different web browsers (Opera, Firefox, IE) in an small IT company/department setting. After picking the new topic, research was divided among group members. We decided to have a group member assigned to each browser and install it on their computer. Each of us will use the browser as part of our research, to immerse ourselves and get the best information.

Throughout the process of completely changing our project, the group definitely became more interested in the project as a whole. The first project idea was liked among the group, but didn’t hold our interest like the current idea. Now that we have a topic the whole group is actively interested in, we will conduct better research and have a better white paper overall. As soon as our white paper took a new direction, the group definitely fell into stride and became more excited about the project. Web browsers are a very relevant tool for all of us and it’s something we use daily, so the researching process should be relatively straight forward.

Based on the results of this meeting, our group should be able to produce a great white paper. Our next meeting is on Sunday where we will compile our research and begin organizing it for the writing process.
