After looking at your's and Nigel's thumbnail I decided that I really like the two column layout. I think that it makes the best of white space but at the same time allowing plenty of space to write. However it seems like yours good be better structured to flow from column to column better. I suggest trying as much as possible to make sure that a new subheader begins the 2nd column. I also don't like the boxes around the figure text. I prefer a box around the picture to separate it from the text and the just putting the figure name directly underneath it. I do like the colored headers as well. It gives the paper a more uniform look.

I like the two column strunction, as Andy noted, and agree that it really takes the best advantage of white space. On the other hand, I kind of think the simpler header/subheader layout does a better job of not distracting the reader too much from the information and graphics. I would recommend getting rid of the large header at the top of the page, and maybe downsizing the subheaders a little. A good idea is to just use the sample white papers, provided by the instructor, as a starting guide. Otherwise, it looks pretty good. Oh, and I was curious too about the foreign text thing in other people's thumbnails as well. I just used an online translator and went to town. For some reason it makes the thumbnail look better, but maybe I have a little too much time...

I think that your layout is the easiest to look at, it is very straight forward and has a uniform layout. I like that you were able to include two pictures, I just hope that leaves enough area for you to include all of the necessary text. I also think that it is great that you included supporting text with your images to tie everything together. The colored text for the headings really set the different sections apart making it easy to see the different sections and topics. I think it would be nice if we adopted your style and made our entire white paper similar to your thumbnail.
