I like where this design is headed. I think that we could possibly include some color. A little color would add a lot to this layout. I like how you used a large border at the top of the page and then a smaller line for the separating the heading of the page. This design seems to really flow well. I think this is a design that we could definitely go with for this project. I like the use of a 3-D pie chart instead of a normal dull 2-D pie chart. With very minor changes I think this would work great.
I agree, this layout is simple, elegant, and effective. The only thing I see is the lack of color. You've used horizontal lines and white space effectively to control the flow of the document. The 3-d pie graph provides a visual element to the page that is easy to read and understand, and simply is hard to miss. My only other concerns from color from a design standpoint is the use of typography. Almost everything here is the same font/color/weight. Headings should probably be a color that emphasizes and overall theme and should have different weights.
Overall the layout that you have created for the white paper project is very effective. Incorporating the graph like you did is an effective way to present vital information next to the text that it is trying to represent. I think that there should be more color that would help draw the reader into what is in front off them which would make it more appealing. Even though I think that a two column design looks better, you did a great job splitting up the information and making it easier to distinguish between different groups of information which would also be easier for the reader to go back and reference any information that they had read earlier.
