Reading Response Week 4

After reading about writing and the proper use of rhetoric, I know how important it is to focus your writing to the audience you are addressing. This is especially true if you are in a situation like JetBlue airlines. From the sources I found, I learned it was important for JetBlue to focus their response texts to alleviate the concern of the passengers. The video posted on the course webpage featured two men who obviously were disturbed about being stranded in the airport for such a long period of time.

Reading Response Week 3

The JetBlue crisis was chaos that could have been avoided given proper preparation. JetBlue gave a valiant effort to try to keep the composure of the customers, but if they were more careful from the beginning, the fiasco could have been avoided. During February of this year, the airline experienced turbulent weather that resulted in the cancellation of numerous flights. Instead of taking the best precautionary methods to avoid the problem, JetBlue decided to keep the flight schedules on as planned.

jetBlue Crisis

This article, from the New York Times, entitled "JetBlue’s C.E.O. Is ‘Mortified’ After Fliers Are Stranded" and is mainly focused on the situation of having a scarcity of workers when times where at the roughest point. The first problem and misjudgment the company made was not cancelling and delaying flights much sooner. Every other company had better plans set for the ice storm that went through the area. JetBlue tried handling the situation differently, thinking they could work through the weather and had to suffer the consequences for their actions.

resume extravaganza

Looking through these resumes, the five candidates I would choose would be the applicants who wrote resumes # 1, 5, 22, 23, and 25. The first thing I noticed while looking through all of these was structure. It is very important that I was able to follow the text and not have to search real hard to try to find information. A little trick I learned is that the eye naturally follows the page from the upper left corner to the bottom right, and then from the bottom left to upper right in an "X" shape, so it is much easier to follow when subordinent lines are demoted.

Reading Response Week 2

From the readings of the past couple days, we can really start to grasp the importance of writing resumes. Reading the posts that were given Monday, I have a new understanding of what I should and should not include in my own personal resume. Honestly if I had not read through each one of the texts provided, I can almost guarantee I would have cluttered up my writing with a bunch of nonsense that would have been irrelevant to the point of the job I was applying for.
