Mlinac Work Blog Week 8

This week I finished revising the final draft of the Caring for Your Pet brochure. I looked over the comments that the Humane Society made and also the comments that Ryan had made. First I made sure I had done everything that they suggested I do. After that I emailed Alayna my revisions up to that point. They mostly consisted of changing the font back to yellow and fixing some spacing errors. Alayna worked on the context revisions and emailed me back the brochure. There were still three errors that we couldn't figure out how to fix.

Mlinac Work Blog Week #7

This week I continued revising the "Caring for Your Pet" brochure that Alayna and I created. I searched online and found some more websites that offered royalty free pictures and looked over them. I was able to find new pictures for three new pictures that I put into the brochure for our second draft. I think all three of these new pictures are much better than the old ones I had in there and they make our brochure look a lot neater and more professional. Along with changing the pictures, I did some research on complementary colors.

Reading Response Week 7

5:00 Appeal to Emotions: +
Our brochure is filled with pictures of cute cats and dogs that would make any one want to help them out. The general brochure also does because the front cover picture is a cute dog that just makes you smile when you see it.

4:00 Be Professional: +
We didn't use any clip art or graphics, only real pictures of real animals. This is a lot more professional that some cartoon pets and clip art. Real pictures helps the reader relate to the real pet they can help out and adopt.

3:40 Be Personal: +

Mlinac Work Blog Week 6

This week our group split into two groups of two and each group handled one brochure. Steven and Daniel completed the General Information brochure and Alanya and I completed the Caring for Your Pet brochure. Since each of us had a specific part to complete, we didn't work together as a group of four a lot. However we offered the other group and helpful suggestions we had when we all got together. We set a Tuesday deadline for having our rough drafts done. We emailed each other the rough drafts to look over.

Reading Response Week 6

All of the principles listed in the Thomson Handbook are necessary in creating a professional brochure. Using variety is good so your readers don't get bored looking at the same pictures or reading the exact same type of paragraphs over and over again. Conciseness is a good way to keep your brochure short and keep the readers interested. If all of your sentences are long and never seem to end your reader will get bored quickly. Thinking of who your audience will be and how you are trying to make them feel while reading your brochure is a very important thing to do.

Mlinac Work Blog Week 5

This week our group just got to know each other a little better and decided who would do what for which brochure. We had a buddy chat on AIM Thursday night and decided that Steven and Daniel would work on the general brochure with Daniel doing the design/graphics and Steven will do the content for it. Alayna will do the content for the "caring for your pet" brochure and I will do the design/graphics. We also put together the Gant Chart that was due today.

Reading Response Week 5

The brochure I found is for a company called CxGBS. The brochure just tells you a little about their company and what they do. I think the proximity of the pictures and the words that are describing the pictures is pretty good throughout the brochure. Each paragraph on the second page has a picture showing some of the buildings that the company has built. Everything also seems to be perfectly aligned in the brochure. Again on the second page every paragraph is aligned with the one directly on top and below it.
