English 420Y - Business Writing Online

This week was the last group conversation before the final draft was to be submitted. We started the week by giving each other feedback on the status of the brochure itself. Rachael suggested that someone should gather all the information and ideas that were produced into a list. Bill was great especially since he made one of the more important alterations in the brochure to make the brochure more presentable. Keeli then reviewed the brochure once again to find a few grammatical errors. Afterwards, Bill made some more alterations in the colors, pictures as well as the charts and graphs.

This week was a real productive week for our group. At the start of the week we had to turn in our second drfat for our broucher. So i contacted all my groupmates asking them how would we split up the work and how we were going to work on it. Before all that i worte an activitcty report on sundady and emailed it to all my group members. After getting there feedback i sent the email out to the professor. After looking at the comments that our teacher made about our frist draft.

Appeal to emotions (+)
I think that our brochure does appeal to the audiences emotions. We used Christmas colors to get our audiences in the mood of Christmas. The pictures we used really showed emotion, such as being happy. Most of the Christmas Parties that are held the goal is to be happy.

Be Professional (-)

This week my group worked on putting together and revising out first brochure draft. We had divided the work equally in our group. My main propose was to gather and organize the information for the Christmas dinner brochure along with Bill. After getting to know what our parts were I went ahead and opened all the files and links for our project on the English website. After looking at the examples and understanding them clearly. I Started to brain storm for some ideas regarding what we could put in our Christmas dinner brochure.

Reading chapter 24 and 37 to me, meant keeping in mind various principles and techniques in order to apply and design an appropriate brochure. In my learning the first principle was to keep in mind the Audience and design the brochure. This is very important as what u do must appeal to the audience, and if it does the project is a success. Hence satisfying the audience is the primary objective. A presentable design and layout for the brochure and then the material, with variety and conciseness was the next thing.

The First week went very well for our group. As soon as I got to know my group members I sent them an email introducing my self and asking them what would be the best way to communicate with them, I also asked them if they had Aim or any messenger service. They all were shocked when I told them that I was in Singapore for the summer and there is a real big time difference. It’s going to be a little hard for me. But I will make the best effort I can by keeping in touch with them. Over a time period it will all work out.

The brochure I found is regarding a company who helps people dealing with pesticides and how to take proper precautions when they use pesticide products.

I found a video on youtube relating to the Jet Blue crises that happen in JFK airport in February. The video is made by a four kids who were stranded in the JFK airport for a long period of time. They were stranded in the plane that was on the runway for 8 hours. After that they were waiting in the terminal for hours trying to find a flight home. There was a lot of confusion in the airport. They finally went to a hotel for a few hours and came back and it was already the next day. They were still on the waiting list since there was only one flight a day to there hometown.
