Hewlett Packard - Technology Consultant C#/.NET
The position I have identified is with Hewlett Packard. This position seems to suit me perfectly as it requires many of the different programming languages and skills that I have acquired throughout my career at Purdue. My prior work experience will also benefit me in fulfilling the list of required attributes. With my prior experience, desire to succeed, and personal interesting in programming this position would be a perfect fit. Hewlett Packard is also an extremely reputable company with a worldwide presence. I am sure that HP would be a great place to work and succeed.
This position is described as requiring knowledge of C# .Net and VB scripts. This would be a perfect match for most any Purdue Computer Information Technology graduate who is concentrating in the information technology track. C# is one of the primary languages we are taught in my major. We are also challenged to become very familiar with the other Microsoft languages and with Microsoft’s Visual Studio development suite, thus Visual Basic scripts are no problem to work with. I have obtained several years of experience with C# throughout the course of my studies. I feel this experience will have most definitely prepared me for this position. Throughout my studies I have also gained knowledge regarding many other design methodologies and programming languages, such as xml and java, described in this posting.
The Microsoft Programming languages are somewhat of a second nature to me. Some of my hobbies include the development of interesting and useful programs and improving upon those that have been written by others. I definitely enjoy programming and especially enjoy programming in C#. I have more experience with C# than any other programming language, but I am always looking to further my knowledge. In my prior work experience I have been required to write in the Microsoft Languages. I have experience writing C# and Visual Basic in a professional environment, and in a personal environment. My internship this past summer included many of the same aspects that this position includes. I was able to work in a multi cultural team on many different projects at the same time and had the chance to lead certain aspects of the project. While I was an intern I actually lead a project through to completion and implementation. I was also able to support the implementation of the software that my team had designed.
With a desire to program and a background in programming C#, it would seem that this position is perfect for me. I enjoy taking charge of a project and leading a team to ensure that projects completion. Hewlett Packard is a worldwide leader in the information technology world today and their name is recognized most everywhere. From the information that I have acquired a position with Hewlett Packard is very valuable, as they challenge their employees to perform and certain reward them for doing so. They also have great facilities and take care of their employees needs. Having the option to move anywhere in the entire world and stay with the same company is also very enticing.

You have started to do a good job of connecting your skills and experiences to what the job requires. I have several suggestions as to how you can translate and expand this analysis into a job application letter and resume.
The first you thing you need to do is find more specific information about the company itself. You need to be able to do more than point our HP's reputation: you need to be somewhat familiar with the range of products and services they offer as well as their recent history: recent acquisitions, mergers, projects, etc. In other words, you need to know more than the average customer knows; you need to know and be able to demonstrate what industry insiders know. This will help you articulate both why you want to work for them and choose what skills, experiences, and values to highlight
With respect to all that you have to offer by way of skills and experiences: you need to prune with an eye towards concrete details. Pick those experiences that best match the work they do and devote several sentences to describing a few in a way that shows you at work. Don't just list/tell them all that you can do; show them what you have done in why that allows them to see you doing it for them. As our readings will indicate, create a vision of yourself that allows them to see you easily and productively fitting in. You will do this with detailed examples selected based on your intimate knowledge of the company and the work this position entails.
