Graphics: Creme Brulee

Graphics are in the pdfs, the upload limit prohibits me from posting additional pictures (which I have a lot of). I spent more time cooking and taking pictures than doing the thumbs...Also I plan to "cartoonize" the pictures and adjust colors (like making the lemons more yellow, ect)

First let me start by saying good choice, Crème Brulee is amazing. You’ve done a really good job laying out all the framework of the instructions, especially on the beginner version. I like how you convey going from one step to another by having the picture and the text alternate places (also a good use of white space). Although, I assume the first step lays out all the tools you need, in which case it would probably be better as a list than a paragraph form for the text. I think the expert is more visually appealing than the novice as well with good sectioning.

Creme Brulee Thumb Feedback

I think your thumbnails are laid out very nicely. I have never made creme brulee before but judging from the pictures that will go along with each step, it appears that your instructions will make the process very easy to follow. I like the section on your expert instructions where you will give tips. I think something like this could also make your novice instructions more effective if you added in a troubleshooting column instead of a tip column. Then you could say, if your creme brulee looks like ___, you may have done ___ wrong. This is just a suggestion I don't know how many things can go wrong, but it may help a reader who's step 5 doesn't look exactly like step 5 should look. Also I don't know if you are planning on labeling your novice instructions with a header or numbers but that may be a good idea. I like the way you have the steps clearly identified in the expert instructions. Overall I think you did a good job and the images make the process seem much more do-able to someone who has never done it.

I think the comments above are valuable. I like that you have a consistent look to your images, and it makes your layout organized. The novice and expert sets also seem as though they are fairly different, which is usually a good way to help keep things user-centered rather than systems-centered.

One thing I would point out is that these documents appear to be at 8.5 x 11 dimensions. As the project page states, we expect you to use the appropriate dimensions for the task (this is a design issue). If it's appropriate for these works to be in 8.5 x 11 format, that's fine, but you don't want a program's default settings to make your design decisions for you. Consider your audience and the context in which these documents will be used. Should you parse pages into individual steps? Are there similar recipe publications that you can use as a model? These are questions to consider.
