This week was quite hectic for me. I stepped up and decided to revise our general information brochure. Our brochure was very different from what the client wanted. They wanted something much more bold and colorful. Also they wanted more “cute” pictures used on our brochure. I tried to first change the template we had used on our brochure in publisher but that did not work out too well so I manually redesigned the whole brochure. I used a lot of pictures off their website. I think that works quite well because what better animals to show than those at the shelter.
Here is our general info brochure.
This week was a little more relaxed for me. Last week Matt and I picked up a lot of the work so this week, John and Laura took charge. We were continuously posted with the progress they were making. I was able to give some feedback on the drafts before they went up on the site. A lot of the instructor suggestions and peer edits were taken into account which made this weeks brochures really good!
Appeal to emotion :(+) I think our brochures appealed to emotion very well. The best way to appeal to emotion according to me is to make good used of pictures and both our brochures did that extremely well.
Be Professional: I think this was one of our strongest points. We maintained professionalism with the format of the brochure and in our style of writing. Using publisher also helped make it look more professional.
This week’s reading was extremely useful. In my case I thought getting the information together for the first draft was extremely important. We tried to use short sentences so that the matter is easy to understand. We did not however do a lot with the format which I think is one of the changes I would like to make based on the reading. We used the same format for the headers which gave the brochure some continuity.
Here is the pet care brochure. Its still in its very early stages. Any comments are welcome.
This week was only the preliminary stages of the project. I fortunately have an excellent group. We all introduced ourselves via e-mail and are trying to figure out exactly how the team is going to work together to finish this project.

The Brochure I chose was of The Oxford English Dictionary Online. The brochure talks about the history of the oxford dictionary on one page and then goes on to talk about the benefits of having the dictionary online. It talks of the different features the online dictionary will have its user friendliness and finally asks for help from the public to update the dictionary.
