Reading Response

After reading Chapter 37 in our handbook, I feel that our group came up with a very simple looking brochure that also provided a good amount of information. Although it still needs some work, a lot of information such as who we are and what our goal is, are all given in the brochure. There are a mix of different sentences, most of which are kept simple and filled with information. I think this type of writing fits our audience best, and does not make them read a novel before they find out what they are looking for.

Reading Response #6

Reading Chapter 24 and 37 was very useful but at the same time using those strategies in our brochure was not as easy as I thought. But it definitely was a great tip and resource to use as a guideline.

Reading Response #6

There are a lot of elements that I have incorporated in my design draft. Coming up with a unique design for a brochure was easier said than done simply because of the distinct functions they serve. Whether it is for visual interpretation, aesthetic appeal, or representing data, they all had their own complex meaning which brought the entire brochure together.

Reading Response

This week’s reading was extremely useful. In my case I thought getting the information together for the first draft was extremely important. We tried to use short sentences so that the matter is easy to understand. We did not however do a lot with the format which I think is one of the changes I would like to make based on the reading. We used the same format for the headers which gave the brochure some continuity.

This document was especially hard to create for various reasons. First, it applies to a highly diverse audience ranging from children to business owners. It is espcially hard to create an appealing design. Also, I thought that many hispanic people would be participating so I tried using simple words in an attempt to make the brochure as easy to read as possible. It was a challenge to make the brochure professional for the businessman, but gain the attention of a child.

The information found in The Thompson Handbook is very useful. I really found Chapter 24 to be useful because it gave a lot of good information on visuals. The details really helped me learn how to effectively use a visual aid. I also liked the information on different kinds of visual aids. This will really help me when I am trying to think of new ways to incorporate visuals, such as various charts and diagrams.

Reading Response

After reading Chapter 37 in The Thompson Handbook, I think that our group did a pretty good job of having variety and emphasis in our brochure. We did not use the same sentence lengths the whole time and had some points broken up with bullets. The different lengths provide variety to the reader when they are reading the brochure and the bulleted points emphasis the points that are being made under our headings. I'm sure that if we looked a little closer we might be able to add even more variety to our sentence patterns and word order.

Brochure

The reading Brochure I found can be seen at:
http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/support/brochure/pdf/r30.pdf .

I think the first page of the brochure is very efficient, it calls attention, its contrasting, accurate, and pertinent. Yet the second part of the brochure (pg 2) has a lot of writting jammed into it. If looks crowed and its very confusing. It lacks contrasts, however its very pertinent to the specification and requierements one must know when purchasing a camera.

Reading Response Week 5

The brochure I found was put out by the American Red Cross Organization and it talks about family contingency plans in case of various natural disasters. This is a very informative brochure and is organized in a very logical way. It starts by creating awareness about disasters and portrays through images the places the natural disasters can occur. The brochure then moves onto steps required to ensure family safety, methods of loss and damage prevention and then provides a to-do list in case a disaster does occur.

The Brochure I chose was of The Oxford English Dictionary Online. The brochure talks about the history of the oxford dictionary on one page and then goes on to talk about the benefits of having the dictionary online. It talks of the different features the online dictionary will have its user friendliness and finally asks for help from the public to update the dictionary.
