English 421Y: Technical Writing Online

The preliminary research for the white paper project that I am responsible for primarily concerns the introductory information. This introduction can be decomposed into three separate topics. First, what exactly is the problem? Next, why should small businesses be concerned about said problem. Finally, how do we propose to resolve this issue.

My third research blog summarizes the information found at http://www.heatpumpcentre.org/. The site operates under the International Energy Agency and also claimed to be the world’s leading information center on heat pumps. Their goal is to speed up the use of heat pumps and related technologies. Again there could be some biased information on the site being that their goal is to promote the use of heat pumps, we will have to make sure to take only the relevant information from this source.

This document summarizes the information found at http://www.gshp.org.uk/index.htm. This is the website for the Ground Source Heat Pump Association. One of their principle aims is to represent the Ground Source Heating and Cooling Industry. The information found on this site will more than likely be accurate, but we must pay attention to any biases that we come across. We want to include much of the same information, but leave the reader completely open to make their own decision.

This week was mainly devoted to research. I did a lot of searching to find a few different types of wind turbines and ended up using three of them on my research blogs. I even watched some video clips about them being used by famous people. I saw that Jay Leno was putting one of them on top of his garage. I thought was good because Jay can afford all the electricity he wants but he would rather “go green” by using solar, as well as wind power. I found that with the combination of the two he doesn’t even use any electricity from the grid most of the year.

I think this site is going to be incredibly valuable for researching heat pumps for our white paper project. The information on this website can more than likely be considered credible since it is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.

For my third research blog, I again wanted to look specifically at web browser features that companies would want and need. The place that I found information was the Univeristy of Washington who did a study to find out what the browser needs of researchers were:

While searching through these more websites I wanted to find more information comparing the Iphone and the G1, the android. I found a couple good sources that are also video feeds of direct comparison without being bias.
