This was a great assignment. I felt like I was in the hiring position and had a couple openings that needed to be filled. Since we had to look over them rather quickly, we had to find things that stood out and got our attention. The resumes I liked were 5, 14, 20, 23, and 28. They all seemed to stand out from the rest. Whether it be the resume layout, heavier class load, interesting internships, or just experience in general, I thought these were better than other ones (however I didnt pick mine haha). Nonetheless, Im glad we were assigned to go through them all briefly.
While reading all those resumes the first thing I noticed was the format, too crowded resumes seemed not so attracted to the eye as the ones that had a very summarized version of their experiences. Also, I evaluated the content by reading the objective first and then the experience. While reading the objective I found better to pay attention to the ones that had very specific information about their goal.
This was a great activity! I've never viewed resumes from the "other side" before. I've only looked at my resumes or my friend's resumes to help them. I've never read resumes like an HR coordinator and now I realize how difficult their job must be on a daily basis!
After quickly reading through the resumes, I have chosen numbers 5, 9, 20, 22, and 32. I really liked how these resumes were easy to read. They had a good layout and were very eye appealing. These resumes were well written and had good objectives. Their work experience often correlated with their objectives. As a group, they were involved and good students.
This assignment was more challenging then I thought that it would be. I didn't expect to have so much trouble making judgments based on resumes. I thought it would be relatively easy and I thought 10 minutes would be plenty of time. I guess I was wrong. It was hard to draw a conclusion about whether the person would be good for a job in such a short period of time. I bet a lot of these people would be great at the job and i didn't pick them. I also think some of the people that I picked might not be the best person for the job.
After scanning through all of the resumes, the ones that stood out the most were 5, 12, 21, 22, and 32. One thing all five had in common was that they all had difined sections. They section titles were in a seperate column from the information describing them. That made finding information of the resumes very easy. A few had unique features that helped them to stand out. For example, number 12 used italics and underlining to add emphasis to different points. Also, number 21 had the section titles highlighted in grey, which made the sections even easier to define.
I chose the resumes on pages 5, 14, 20, 26, and 28. I chose these resumes because their layouts were very organized and the detail was in the right place. When the layout is more organized you are more aware to the information provided. All the resumes I chose were very well organized and the information was given in the correct order. Always education was at the top, which is where is should be because that is most important to us in this time in our lives. I noticed that 5 has got chosen a lot, and I think that most people had the same idea that I did.
After reading through all the resumes in this activity, I chose the resumes on page 5, 8, 9, 26, and 32. All the resumes I chose that an appealing layout to me, which made me want to read them more than others and actually is part of the reason that I chose them. However, my main way of evaluating them was this. I read the objective and then looked through their resume for experience doing whatever it was they said they wanted to do or could do in the objective. If I saw experience, I read through the information more thoroughly.
